Legal Requirement
The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, states that suitable training must be provided to ensure that employees are aware of hazards and are competent to undertake their job safely.
Candidate Suitability
This course is designed to be a general induction to the safety issues presented by the working environment. These sessions are provided to meet the needs of individual customers, allowing the content to be appropriately focused to suit the job role of the delegates present.
Course Content
The Basic Principles of Workplace Safety, included within this course, will be based upon the nature of work of the delegates. (eg, Construction, Warehouse, Manufacturing or Office Safety). The issues that will generally be covered, at a basic awareness level, would be:
- Maintaining a safe workplace & the importance of housekeeping.
- Hazard identification & risk assessment.
- Manual handling.
- Slips, trips & falls.
- Working at height.
- Noise.
- Fire prevention & emergency actions.
- First aid and the reporting of injuries, diseases & dangerous occurrences.
- Electrical hazards.
- Work equipment. (use of plant, machinery and guarding)
- Personal protective equipment. (PPE)
- General health hazards. (COSHH, vibration, asbestos, etc)
- Confined spaces.
- Use of display screen equipment.
- Stress management.
Assessment & Qualification
This course has no formal assessment. Delegates are assessed by our tutor based upon participation and demonstration of understanding. Upon successful completion of the course delegates are issued with a certificate of training.
